Andrew Shurilla

Mr. Andrew P. Shurilla, 85, of Academy Street, Salamanca, NY died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Absolut of Salamanca.

Born January 17, 1932 in Custer City, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Helena Dubinski Shurilla. Following their deaths, he was raised by his godmother, the late Julia Jacewicz and her late husband, John. He was married on June 20, 1953 in the former Holy Cross Church to the former Marjorie Prusinowski, who survives.

He attended Salamanca High School and was employed for over 25 years as a cabinet maker at the former Fancher Furniture Company. He had also been employed at Sterlingworth Furniture, Falconer, NY, York Merit, Ellicottville, NY, and with the Cattaraugus County DPW until his retirement in 1996.

Mr. Shurilla was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the Salamanca Chapter of the AARP, and Salamanca Senior Center. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, cross country skiing, and bicycling. He participated in the Jamestown Horseshoe Pitching League and bowled in the Senior League. He was an avid NY Yankees baseball fan.

Surviving are: three daughters, Karen (Dale) Langworthy, Kill Buck, NY, Lori (Robert) Bretzin, Hinsdale, NY, Cynthia (Richard) Woodring, Smethport, PA; a son, Jeffrey (Barbara) Shurilla, Great Valley, NY; five grandchildren, Jason Langworthy, Lindsay Langworthy, Hannah Shurilla, Tracy Woodring, and Ryan Woodring; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three infant grandchildren, Stacey Woodring, Michelle Woodring, and Brandon Shurilla, two infant sisters, Genevieve Shurilla, Pauline Shurilla, an infant brother, Paul Shurilla, and a stepsister, Dorothy Pavlock.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 4 – 7 p.m.

A prayer service will be in the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Peace Parish at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Peter Napierkowski, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
