Daniel M. Opferbeck
Mr. Daniel M. Opferbeck Sr., age 75, of Washington Street, Salamanca, NY died Wednesday morning, December 21, 2011 at his home following a long illness.
Born on April 14, 1936 in East Otto, NY, he was the son of the late Fritz and Mildred Rice Opferbeck. He was married on February 8, 1957 in Salamanca, NY to the former Donna Conte who predeceased him on April 21, 2011.
Mr. Opferbeck was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for over thirty years prior to his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, he worked at Mongillo Jewelers in Salamanca, NY.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was an avid golfer. He also had bowled in the Salamanca Leagues for over thirty years.
He was a member of Our Lady of peace Parish, Holy Cross Athletic Club, Elkdale Country Club, the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002 and the Elks Club and a former member of the Salamanca Volunteer Firemen's Association.
Surviving are: 2 daughters, Christie (Michael) Bowles, Drake Run, Salamanca, NY, Linda Huffman, Salamanca, NY; 2 sons, Daniel Opferbeck Jr. and Matthew Opferbeck, both of Washington Street, Salamanca, NY; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 3 brothers, Willard (Doris) Opferbeck, Richard (Katherine) Opferbeck, and Jed (Barbara) Opferbeck, all of Salamanca, NY.
He was predeceased by one sister, Edna Edmonds.
Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Monday, December 26th from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Tuesday, December 27th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Our Lady of Peace Parish in Salamanca, NY.
