Dorothea A. De Chane

Mrs. Dorothea A. De Chane, age 80, of Rt. 98, Great Valley, NY died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY following a short illness.

Born on November 5, 1936 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Geneva Plummer Whitcomb Sr. She was married for 56 years to Mr. Timothy De Chane Sr., who survives.

Mrs. De Chane was employed as a real estate agent working in Newport, RI as well the Cattaraugus County area for over 22 years.

She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church, Ellicottville, NY, where she taught religious education, and Literary Volunteers of America, where she taught reading. She was an avid antiquer, collector of books, and she was an avid seamstress. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving besides her husband are: 5 daughters, Evelyn (Stephen) Fanning, Newport, RI, Mary Dennett, Huntington Beach, CA, Jennifer De Chane, Great Valley, NY, Christina (Daniel) Slazas, Plymouth, MA, Dorrie (Tito) Fajardo, Oakland, CA; 4 sons, Joseph De Chane, Buffalo, NY, Todd (Robin) DeChane, Pensacola, FL, Thomas (Terra) De Chane, Great Valley, NY, Timothy (Lisa) De Chane Jr., Humphrey, NY; 31 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret De Chane, a son, Patrick De Chane, 2 brothers, Walter Whitcomb and Leo Whitcomb.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Holy Name of Mary Church, Ellicottville, NY, on Saturday at 1 p.m.with Rev. Ronald Mierzwa, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Ellicottville, NY.
