Dorothy Oakes, age 81, formerly of Elm Street & Emerald Hills, Salamanca, New York died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Absolut of Salamanca, New York following a long illness.
Born on February 13, 1926 in Salamanca, New York she was the daughter of the late Christian and Peral Weagraf Nitz. She was married to Mr. Donald Oaks who predeceased her in 1962.
Mrs. Oaks was employed in the Dietary Department at the former Salamanca District Hospital and the Salamanca Nursing Home.
She was a life member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #96, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salamanca Volunteer Fire Department, the former Salamanca District Hospital Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are: 3 daughters, Delores (Ronald) Heilman, Sunsites, Arizona, Pearl Oakes, Apache Junction, Arizona, Carol Oaks, Olean, New York; a step son, Lance (Janet) Oaks, Olean, New York; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Nitz, 4 sisters, Christina Krause, Luella Phillips, Gertrude Ashley and Idabell Higbee.
Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Griffith of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
