Florence J. Fuller

Florence J. Fuller, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Bradford Pavilion, where she had been residing for several weeks after an injury.

Born November 3, 1938 in Kill Buck, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Alice Crouse McMullen. She was married in 1966 to James “Tony” Fuller, who predeceased her in 2014.

A lifelong resident of Windfall Road, Florence was a 1957 graduate of Salamanca High School.

In 1993, she retired from her position as Chief Clerk of the Cattaraugus County Surrogate’s Court after more than 30 years of service. She then began a political career and was elected to several terms on the Carrollton Town Board.

Florence was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians (Heron Clan) and was active as a Seneca elder and in the Presbyterian Church in Jimersontown. Florence devoted her entire life to civil and public service and her community involvements were numerous.

In addition to her work as an elected official, she also served on the Seneca Nation Museum Board of Directors, as a member of the Cattaraugus County Planning Board, and as president of the Women’s Republican Club. She was very involved with the Kiwanis Club of Salamanca, serving more than 20 years and as the first woman to be elected club president.

Florence was an accomplished seamstress, world traveler, avid reader, and animal lover. She enjoyed boating, shopping, Sunday drives, and a good horror movie.

Surviving are: a daughter, Lisa Fuller, Columbus, OH; two grandchildren, Ava and Roman Ruocco; her adopted companion, Tinkerbell; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Merle Warner and her twin, Lawrence McMullen, and a sister, Hazel DeGolia Karpin.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 7 – 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Marvin Abrams officiating.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
