Gerald Shinners

Gerald Shinners, 77, of Kill Buck, NY died Friday morning, September 1, 2017 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Born November 9, 1939 in Salamanca, NY he was the son of the late William and Louise Moran Shinners. He was married on October 20, 1971 to the former Marian Stickney, who predeceased him on July 26, 2016.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on board the USS Forrestal (CV-59).

He had been employed with Penn DOT and had also worked in the oil fields in the surrounding Bradford, PA area.

Mr. Shinners was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He loved being outdoors, running errands, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are: a son, Gerald (Jeanette) Shinners II, Salamanca, NY; two stepchildren, Robin Pender, Bradford, PA, James Pender Jr., Kill Buck, NY; two grandchildren, Kerstin Shinners and Kody Shinners, both of Salamanca, NY; a brother, William (Marsha) Shinners, OH; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Sean “Slim” Shinners, a sister, Dorothy West, and a brother, Donald Shinners.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Deacon Michael Anderson, Eucharistic Minister of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
