Harold E. Dougherty

Harold E. “Chub” Dougherty, 90, previously of Limestone, NY, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Salamanca Rehabilitation & Nursing Center following a short illness.

Born January 15, 1934 in Bradford, PA, he was the son of the late Glenn and Gladys Dempsey Dougherty. He was married on April 16, 1955 to the former Shirley McDermott who predeceased him in 2009.

He attended Limestone High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea from 1951 – 1954.

Harold had been employed as a bus driver with the Allegany Limestone Central School System for over ten years.

He was a member of the former St. Patrick’s RC Church, Limestone, NY and a lifetime member of the Limestone American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296, Salamanca, NY, and the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed watching sports and drinking beer with all his friends.

Surviving are: a son, Michael (Ellen) Dougherty, Salamanca, NY; a daughter, Patricia (Michael) Crawford, Bradford, PA; a foster daughter, Rebecca Mintz, Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren, Molly (Brendan) Heaney, Fillmore, NY, Kevin Dougherty, Portville, NY, Daniel (Maria) Crawford, Stanford Springs, CT; four great-grandchildren, Jenna Heaney, Mara Heaney, both of Fillmore, NY, Braxton Crawford, Sabrina Crawford, Stanford Springs, CT; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Glenn Dougherty, Herbert Dougherty, Robert Dougherty, and a sister, Maxine Dougherty Ronald.

There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Limestone Community Center, 640 Main Street, Limestone on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12 - 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the and the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, 5886 Church Street, Limestone, NY 14753.
