Harry L. Ames Sr.
Harry L. Ames Sr., 83, of Salamanca, NY, died early Wednesday morning, February 19, 2025 at home following a battle with cancer.
Born April, 19, 1941 in Warren, PA, he was the son of the late Harry Ames and Dorothy Speckman Shongo. He was married on May 16, 1963 in Chicago, IL to the former Sharon Gale, who predeceased him in 1993. He is survived by his longtime companion of 23 years, Carol Terhune.
He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and of the Bear Clan.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
Harry had been employed as a truck driver for over 35 years, retiring in 2007.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, building model airplanes, and woodworking. He loved the outdoors and tending to his yard. Harry was an avid Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys fan.
Surviving are: two daughters, Nellie (Daren) Stevens, Irving, TX, Amy (David) Meyers, Fulton, NY; six sons, Mark (Darlene) Warrick, Rockwell, TX, Rick Ames, Chicago, IL, Harry (Leah) Ames Jr., Sean (Jennifer) Ames, both of Jamestown, NY, Gregory (Pamela) Ames, Poolville, TX, Michael (Linda) White Little Valley, NY; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Turner and a son, David Ames.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 10 – 11am, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Ben Good, Pastor of Riverside Chapel, officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery, Jimersontown, NY.
