James N. Irwin

Mr. James N. Irwin, 85, of State Park Avenue, Salamanca, NY, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Olean General Hospital following an illness.

Born December 17, 1933 in Marienville, PA, he was the son of the late Silas and Gertrude Finlaw Irwin. He was married in Great Valley on September 28, 1985 to the former Tina L. Winship, who survives.

He attended Marienville High School, Marienville, PA.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Europe and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Mr. Irwin was self-employed as a house painter with Irwin Painting in Salamanca prior to his retirement. Previously, he worked at Holiday Valley and Asplundh Tree Expert.

He was a former member of the Kane, PA Veterans Club. He liked to cook, work on cars, and enjoyed fishing. He also loved his dog and loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to tell a good joke.

Surviving besides his wife are: his mother-in-law Marlene Winship; two brothers-in-law, Brian Winship, and Bruce Winship.

He was predeceased by his twin sister, Mary Ann Bennett, and siblings Jesse Hoover, Genevieve “Midge” Confer, Perry Irwin, Lester Irwin, Andy Irwin, Floyd Irwin, and Namcy Irwin.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
