John P. Wind

John P. “Jack” Wind, 93, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024 at home following a long illness.

Born December 16, 1930 in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late John and Hazel Wheeler Wind. He was married on June 20, 1953 in Olean, NY to the former Dolores Peterson, who survives.

He was a graduate of Olean High School.

Jack had been employed with the former Quality Markets, Bells, and Loblaws.

He enjoyed spending time with family and served on the Salamanca Police Auxiliary for over thirty years, serving as captain of the Auxiliary from 1996 – 2011. In his younger days, he enjoyed the outdoors and in retirement, took up woodworking.

Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter, Jean (James) Brahaney, Rochester, NY; two sons, Randy (Leslie) Wind, Olean, NY, Gary Wind, Salamanca, NY; two grandsons, Michael Wind, New Castle, DE, Brian (Traci) Wind, Little Valley, NY; two great-grandchildren, Reece and Rylan Wind, both of Little Valley, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cindy Wind, two infant grandsons, Randy Wind, and John Wind, and his twin sister, Glenna Whittam.

There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of family and will be announced.

The family suggests memorials be sent to HomeCare & Hospice, 1225 West State Street, Olean, NY 14760.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
