Marjorie "Margie" Mae Shurilla

Mrs. Marjorie “Margie” Mae Shurilla, age 86, of Academy Street, Salamanca, NY and a resident of Eden Heights in Olean, NY died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY following a sudden short illness.

Born May 10, 1931 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ella Rojek Prusinowski. She was married on June 20, 1953 in the former Holy Cross Church to Mr. Andrew Shurilla, who predeceased her on July 20, 2017.

She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the Salamanca Chapter of the AARP, the Salamanca Senior Center, and the Salamanca Garden Club.

She especially enjoyed her family and loved flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and decorating her Academy Street home for each holiday.

Following graduation from Salamanca High School in 1948, she was employed at the former J.J. Newberry Store and then in the Sales Department of the former Fancher Furniture Company. In 1971, she was appointed Executive Secretary to the Salamanca Civil Service Commission, from which she retired in 1998.

Surviving are: a son, Jeffrey (Barbara) Shurilla, Great Valley, NY; three daughters, Karen (Dale) Langworthy, Kill Buck, NY, Lori (Robert) Bretzin, Hinsdale, NY, Cynthia (Richard) Woodring, Smethport, PA; five grandchildren, Jason Langworthy, Lindsay Langworthy, Hannah Shurilla, Tracy Woodring, Ryan Woodring; two sisters, Jane Calvert, Olean, NY, Donna Zalewski, Salamanca, NY; a brother, Paul (Lorraine) Prusinowski, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three infant grandchildren, Stacy Woodring, Michelle Woodring, Bandon Shurilla, and a brother, Robert Prusinowski.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2 – 5 p.m.

A prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Monday morning at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Parish with Rev. Peter Napierkowski, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
