Marlene A. Eddy

Marlene Eddy, 91, of Great Valley, NY, died Tuesday, July 19, 2023 at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.

Born April 11, 1932 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred Sinclair Nelson. She was married in 1951 to Neal R. Eddy, who predeceased her in 2014.

She was a graduate of West Valley High School, Class of 1948.

Marlene had co-owned the former Eddy’s Restaurant, Great Valley, NY with her late husband for over 30 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling with her late husband, and wintering in Bonita Springs, FL. She was an avid baseball fan, following the Cleveland Guardians.

She attended Al-Anon for over 50 years, and was a huge inspiration to many of the people there. She rarely spoke at meetings, but when she did, everyone listened intently. She had that rare gift of truly listening to others. Her wisdom, compassion, and humor will be a cherished memory for all who knew her.

Surviving are: a son, Lynn (Tammy) Eddy, Great Valley, NY; two daughters, Marilyn (Dennis) Siperek, Great Valley, NY, Jean (Thomas) Woodarek, Penfield, NY; seven grandchildren, Anthony Galante, Patrick (Fallon Snyder) Galante, Jenna (Brian McGraw), Marla, and John (Althea) Woodarek, Cameron and Brooke Eddy; seven great-grandchildren, Tayoni, Myla, Anthony, Luca, Naveya, and Tavani Galante, Ira Snyder; a sister, Karen (Fran) Stauffer, Tonawanda, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Dean Nelson.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 4 – 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 95 Franklin St, Buffalo, NY 14202.
