Martin "Marty" John Sr.

Martin “Marty” John Sr., 72, of Salamanca, NY died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Millard Filmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, NY following a long illness.

Born November 26, 1945 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy Jimerson John.

He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Deer Clan.

Marty had been employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator working for over thirty years across the United States and owned and operated MJ Construction. He served as Chief Marshall with the Seneca Nation of Indians.

He was a car enthusiast and built and raced his own cars. Marty was an avid NASCAR fan and attended many races. He enjoyed cooking, watching birds, playing horseshoes, boating, and being with his family. He always had a generous soul and a great joke to tell. Marty will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #17 and attended the Coldspring Longhouse.

Surviving are: two daughters, Vicki (Jason) Barber, Black Creek, NY, Tracy (Jacob) Collins-Ballew, Dalton, GA; two sons, Martin A. “Andy” (Jess) John Jr., Allegany, NY, Shane John, Salamanca, NY; daughter-in-law, Betheny Jimerson, Buffalo, NY; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Phyllis “Eileen” Bardeau, Steamburg, NY, Donna Crouse, Deanna John, both of Salamanca, NY, Karen Baum, Alum Bank, PA, Dorothy (Ed) Confer, Kill Buck, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Raymond “Rollo” Jimerson, two brothers, Lionel John, Wilbur John, and a sister, Ruth John.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held.

Burial will be in Hilllside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
