Myra "Bert" Carnes

Mrs. Myra “Bert” Carnes, 80, of Henry Street, Salamanca, NY died early Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at the Bradford Nursing Pavilion following a long illness.

Born January 1, 1937 in East Otto, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Myra Sutton Crooks. She was married on August 4, 1955 in Salamanca, NY to Mr. Glenn Carnes, who predeceased her on March 9, 1998.

Mrs. Carnes co-owned the Ashford General Store with her late husband from 1991 – 1998. Previously, she was employed in the Maintenance Department at both Ellicottville and Salamanca Central Schools prior to her retirement. She had also been owner of the Ashford Hollow Office Company.

She attended the Great Valley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, travelling, going on car rides, spending time with her sisters, arts and crafts, and was an avid card player. She also enjoyed long walks with her dog, Coco and was a supporter of the Animal Humane Society.

Surviving are: a son, Eugene Carnes, Bath, NY; a daughter, Tracy Carnes, Salamanca, NY; three granddaughters, Nicole (Chase) Hayes, ME, Sydney Widger, Boulder, CO, Haydyn (Malcolm Booker) Spencer, Cheektowaga, NY; two grandsons, Joshua Beane, ME, Trey Spencer, Lockport, NY; five great-grandchildren, Colby Hayes, Kaiden Hayes, Kyleigh Hayes, all of ME, Mya Booker, Kamren Booker, both of Cheektowaga, NY; three sisters, Ann Lloyd, Salamanca, NY, Barbara (Frank) Clark, Great Valley, NY, Juanita (Terry) Yonkers, Salamanca, NY; a brother, Richard (Virginia) Crooks, Nashville, TN; several nieces and nephews; a good friend, Carol Radich, Blasdell, NY.

She was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Byroads.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River St, Salamanca, NY on Tuesday from 2 – 4 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute or the donor’s choice.
