Nancy Wangelin
Loving Mother and Grandmother
Nancy J. Wangelin, 89, of Arcade and formerly Salamanca, NY died on January 30, 2025 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born November 10, 1935 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Muriel Steffenhagen Flanagan. She was married to Stanley Wangelin, who predeceased her.
She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1953.
After graduating high school, Nancy went to work for New York Telephone as a telephone operator in the Salamanca office in 1957. She then transferred to the Arcade office and worked there until they went to the automated dial mode in 1965. She then went to work for Motorola, Arcade, NY in 1973 and retired after 27 years of service.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, and will be remembered for her pies. Nancy was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Nancy was very proud to be a 30 year member of the Eagle Memorial Post 1720, Bliss, NY.
Surviving are: a daughter, Myra (John) Jacobs; a son, Brian (Angie) Arnold; three grandsons, Michael Jacobs, Daniel (Alyssa) Arnold, Bradley (Amber) Arnold; a granddaughter, Jessica Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Jacobs, Evan Arnold, Natalie Arnold; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Martina Conlan, MaryAnn Baker, and Lucille Higbee and the father of her children, Wayne Arnold.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
