Nora Crouse

Mrs. Nora Crouse, age 102, formerly of 58 Eagle Street, Salamanca, New York died Wednesday (March 12, 2008) at Olean General Hospital.

Born on March 26, 1905 in Salamanca, New York she was the daughter of the late Delia Jimerson Cooper and the stepdaughter of the late Thomas Cooper. She was married in 1922 to Mr. Ernest Snyder. In 1947 she married Mr. Earl E. Crouse who predeceased her on September 16, 1956.

She graduated the Stratford Business School, Buffalo, New York.

Mrs. Crouse was retired in 1991 from the Seneca Nation of Indians where she was employed as a mail clerk. Previously she had been employed at the former Shelbe & Wood Woolen Mills and the Salamanca School System.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Deer Clan, Women if the Moose Lodge #62, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, and was an avid bingo player. Mrs. Crouse received her GED in 1980 when she was 75 years old and will always be remembered for her knitting, crocheting and for the many friendships she treasured.

Surviving are: 1 daughter, Jean Haines, 121 Jefferson Street, Salamanca, New York; 2 sons Rev. Kenneth (Joanne) Snyder, Gowanda, New York, Mr. Earl Crouse, Rt 417. Vandalia, New York; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by 1 daughter, Dorothy Snyder Crants Cox, 3 sons, Mr. Maurice P. Snyder, Mr. ralph R. Snyder, Mr. Daniel Snyder.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home,. 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York with Rev. Jeffery Snyder, grandson, of Colden Methodist Church officiating.
