Paul J. Prusinowski

Paul J. Prusinowski, 94, of Salamanca, NY died Monday, December 25, 2023 at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.

Born September 16, 1929 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Ella Rojek Prusinowski. He was married at the former Holy Cross Church on July 28, 1979 to the former Lorraine Puvel, who survives.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1947.

A veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War, Paul was assigned as a clerk for “Charlie Company” in charge of service records.

After graduation, Paul worked at the former S&S Wallpaper and Paint Store in Salamanca and the B&O Railroad. He then worked as a Postal Carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 36 years, retiring in 1991. He served his own neighborhood for 21 of those years.

Paul was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, having served as altar boy and usher. He was a a 60-year member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535, a member of the Salamanca AARP Chapter 844, where he was Membership Chairman, the Salamanca Senior Center, the National Association of Letter Carriers, where he served a number of years as secretary for the local branch #1097, and a life member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, where he served as secretary for 13 years and Bingo Chairman for 23 years. He was a former member of the Friday mixed bowling league and the Moose Club. He loved travelling, baseball, boxing, bowling, and walking. Paul was a lifelong NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan.

Surviving besides his wife are: two sisters, Jane Calvert, Olean, NY, Donna Zalewski, Salamanca, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Prusinowski, and a sister, Marjorie “Margie” Shurilla.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 5 – 7pm.

A Prayer Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish.

Full Military Honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296 at church.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
