Richard Ambuske

Mr. Richard Ambuske, 86, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY surrounded by his family.

Born September 11, 1930 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Floyd and Viola Rybicka Ambuske. He was married on June 25, 1955 in St. John’s Church, Olean, NY, to the former Theresa Marcus, who predeceased him on September 29, 2010.

Mr. Ambuske was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Corporal in Europe with the 1795th Armored Cavalry Recon. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal Germany.

He had been employed as a carpenter with the Empire State Carpenters Union in Olean, NY.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 66 in Olean, NY. He enjoyed spending time with his family, polka music, and hunting and fishing with his grandsons.

Surviving are: two daughters, Susan Ambuske, Salamanca, NY, Kathleen (Frank) Hanick, Erie, PA; three grandchildren, Sgt. Mark (Heather) Hanick, Ft. Drum, NY, Nicholas Hanick, Kaitlyn Hanick, both of Erie, PA; two great-grandchildren, Cayden Hanick, Easton Hanick, both of Ft. Drum, NY; a sister, Marjorie (Dan) Riggs, Franklinville, NY.

He was predeceased by an infant great-granddaughter, Bailey Grace Hanick, and an infant sister.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial mass will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Peter Napierkowski, pastor, as celebrant.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
