Thomas Sweeney

Mr. Thomas Sweeney, age 89, formerly of 45 Cleveland Avenue, Salamanca, New York died Thursday, October 4, 2007, at the Gowanda Nursing Home, Gowanda, New York.

Born on April 24, 1918 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Michael and Stella Knorr Sweeney. He was married on June 25, 1949 in St. Patrick's Church to the former Mary Ferrara who survives.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving with the 755th Railroad Shop in the European Theatre during WWII.

Mr. Sweeney was employed as a Brakeman/Conductor on the B&O Railroad for over 37 years prior to his retirement in May of 1978.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535, and Elkdale Country Club.

Surviving besides his wife are: 1 son, Mr. Michael (Susan) Sweeney, Cary, North Carolina; 1 grandson, Mr. Ryan Sweeney, Elon University, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Goggin.

There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Mass will be held in St. Patrick's Church on Monday (October 8, 2007) at 10:30 A.M with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski pastor of Holy Cross/ St. Patrick's officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Libary, Memorial Book Fund, 155 Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca, New York or St. Patrick's Memorial Fund, 79 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
