Alfred L. Seitz

Mr. Alfred L. “Alfie” Seitz, 95, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022 at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.

Born September 5, 1927 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Karl A. and Theresa Sirdivan Seitz. He was married in the former St. Patrick’s Church on April 4, 1951 to the former Camille “Chickie” Gengo, who predeceased him on March 12, 2016.

Alfie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1949 - 1952.

He had been employed as a signalman on the Erie/Conrail Railroad for 41 years prior to his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and served on the City of Salamanca’s Police Commission for over 44 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, socializing, and will be remembered for his positive outlook and ability to make people laugh. He was an avid Notre Dame and Buffalo Bills fan and loved his dogs and cats throughout the years.

Surviving are: two daughters, Nancy (Tom Biruk) Smith, Cortland, NY, Ann (Toby) Hawkins, Hinsdale, NY; two sons, David Seitz, Golden Valley, AZ, Tom (Sharon Viehdeffer) Seitz, Batavia, NY; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Catherine Howden, five brothers, Martin, Karl, Paul, John, and James “Sammie” Seitz.

Family will receive friends at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 9 - 10am at which time a memorial mass will be held with Rev. Dennis Mancuso, pastor, as celebrant.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296 following the mass at church. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
