Betty A. Meierjurgen

Betty A. Meierjurgen, 89, of Little Valley, NY, died Wednesday afternoon, August 14, 2024 at home following a long illness.

Born May 5, 1935 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Henrietta (Hamm) Brooks.

She was a graduate of South Park High School, Class of 1952 and earned her Master’s Degree in Education of Art with a concentration in History from St. Bonaventure University in 1986.

Betty had a career in education with the Salamanca Central School System for over 30 years, where she was on the School Board. She also worked as a counselor for the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, retiring in 2004. She also taught History at St. Bonaventure University.

She excelled in painting acrylics, charcoal, and watercolors and won several awards for her paintings. She participated in Routes to Art. She enjoyed extensive travel and wintering in Florida.

Surviving are: a son, Kenneth J. and Lori (Skudlarek) Meierjurgen, Ypsilanti, MI; a daughter, Cathy M. (Robert Goodridge) Meierjurgen, Rochester, NY; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Nicholas) Reinagel, Lockport, NY, LeeAnne Meierjurgen, Ypsilanti, MI, Kristine (Mitch) Kane, Dundee, MI, Kenneth Meierjurgen II, New Hudson, MI, Robert Goodridge Jr., Rochester, NY; six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a grandson, William Goodridge, and a brother, James Brooks.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. and Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 12 – 1 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Michael Trenchard officiating.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Oncology Department at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, 116 Interstate Parkway, Bradford, PA 16701.
