Cecilia R. Prusinowski
Cecilia R. Prusinowski, 86, of Salamanca, NY, died Sunday (September 11, 2011) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.
Born April 30, 1925 in Salamanca, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Lakoma) Stefanski. She was married on September 17, 1949, to Robert Prusinowski, who predeceased her on March 13, 2006.
Mrs. Prusinowski graduated from Salamanca High School in 1943. During World War II she joined the US Cadet Nurse Corps for nurses training and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira, NY on February 28, 1947. She received her license to practice as a Registered Nurse on June 12, 1947, and began a 40 year nursing career working in physicians offices, Salamanca District Hospital, in private duty nursing, and as Head Nurse/Supervisor at Cattaraugus Nursing Home in Olean. After retirement she continued to apply her nursing skills in the care of her friends and family members.
Mrs. Prusinowski was a member of Our Lady of Peace where she served as a eucharistic minister at church and for nursing home residents, the Altar & Rosary Society, Star of Liberty Lodge 76, Polish Women's Alliance, and AARP Salamanca Chapter 744.
Her interests included arts and crafts, sewing, knitting, painting and volunteering for Olean General Hospital for which she knitted hundreds of caps for newborn infants.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Boni, Reading PA, two sons, Mark Prusinowski, San Jose, CA, Daniel Prusinowski, East Aurora, NY, one brother Henry (Betty) Stefanski, Salamanca, one sister, Florence Woodarek, Salamanca, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Prusinowski was predeceased by three brothers, Edward Stefanski, Anthony Stefanski, Joseph Stefanski, and five sisters, Stella Meyers, Helen Liguori, Jane Slevinski, Mary Pounds, and Frances Stefanski.
Friends may call on Tuesday (September 13, 2011) from 4 -7 PM at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY. Our Lady of Peace Altar & Rosary Society will recite the Rosary of Christian Hope at 4:30 PM.
A prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday (September 14, 2011), 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Church with the Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca.
