Cleo John
Cleo Q. John, age 56, of Jimersontown, New York died late Saturday (October 20, 2007) evening at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. following a short illness.
Born on March 6, 1951 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Earl and Ramona Redeye John. He was married to Sabrina Lojak in 1978 who predeceased him on June 25, 1998.
Mr. John was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Hawk Clan, the Hawk Clan, the First Free Methodist Church of Allegany.
He was a 1971 graduate of Salamanca Central High School. He attended Alfred State College and Jamestown Community College.
Mr. John was presently employed as the Director of the Department of Pulic Works for the Seneca Nation of Indians. Previously, he was employed as an Electrician for the Seneca Nation of Indians for over 20 years. From 1981-82 he was an Electrician for Donahoe Electrical Contracting in Syracuse, NY. From 1982-84 he was employed as an Electrical Foreman for Construction Associates. In 1985 he was a self employed Electrician. He was a Seneca Nation Councilor from 1994-98. In 1996 he was the Seneca Nation of Indians Route 219 Committee Chairman. In 1971 in the Novice Division he was the Golden Gloves Champion with Stewart "Jo-Jo" Redeye as his trainer.
He enjoyed and loved his family very much. He was humorous, and enjoyed football, fishing, hunting, cooking, doing electrical work, his plants, his dogs, and reading his bible.
Surviving are: 4 brothers, Michael John, Patrick John, Jason John, all of Jimersontown, New York, Mortimer (Kara) John, Steamburg, New York; 5 sisters Dorsie Familo, Jimersontown, New York, Esther (Stephen) Maybee, Old Route 17, Jimersontown, Winifred John, Jimersontown, New York; his daughter-in-law, Adrienne John, Gainesville, Flordia; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Andrew O. John on February 2, 2007.
Friends may call at the home of Phyllis Royer, 3579 Center Road, Jimersontown, New York on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the Royer home followed by services at the Jimersontown Presbyterian Church at 12:00 P.M. noon with Pastor Andrew Haskins, of the Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery, Jimersontown, New York.
Funeral arragements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Fuenral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
