D. Frederick Baker
D. Frederick Baker, 62, of Jamestown, NY died Thursday (June 15, 2017) at his home surrounded by his family.
Born January 26, 1955 in Hornell, NY, he was the son of the late John and Virginia Smith Baker. He was married on August 8, 1981 in the former St. Patrick’s Church in Salamanca to the former Nancy O’Rourke, who survives.
Fred was a graduate of Andover High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as an Aircraft Environmental Systems Mechanic with the 87th Tactical Wing at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. He was awarded the Longevity Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Prior to his retirement last month, he was employed at Jamestown Containers as Vice-President of Human Resources.
He was a member of the Holy Apostles Parish, St. John’s Church, the Cable Hollow Golf Course, the Jamestown YMCA, where he had served on the board, and was a board member of the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
Surviving besides his wife are: three sons, Michael (Stephanie) Baker, Jamestown, NY, Martin (Vanessa) Baker, New York City, Paul (Lauren Caldwell) Baker, Jamestown, NY; two grandsons Patrick Baker, Connor Baker, both of Jamestown, NY; a sister Rosemary Baker, Arlington Heights, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by a brother Steve Baker.
There will be no visitation.
Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Holy Apostles Parish, St. John’s Church, 270 Newton Ave, Jamestown, NY with Rev. Dennis W. Mende as celebrant.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Air Force Honor Guard for McGuire Air Force Base.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Jamestown YMCA, 101 E 4th St, Jamestown, NY 14701 or the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd, Jamestown, NY 14701.
