Daniel Nelsen

Daniel Nelsen, 59 of 45 High Street, Salamanca, New York died early Friday morning, April 20, 2012 at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, New York.

Born on February 18, 1953 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Francis and Mary "Helen" Mooney Nelsen. He was married in Salamanca, on September 26, 1981 to the former Debra Krause who survives.

Mr. Nelsen was a graduate of Salamanca District High School and Jamestown Community College.

He was employed by the United States Post Office as a self contracted Rural Mail Carrier. He had previously worked construction in the Houston, Texas area for five years.

Mr. Nelsen was a member of the Fresh Air Summer Program and hosted children for over 20 years. He enjoyed skiing and was a former ski instructor at Holiday Valley. He played on various softball leagues and teams in the area.

Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter, Danielle Nelsen, Rochester, New York; a brother, Barry (Sue) Nelsen, Mountain Lakes, New Jersey; 2 sisters, Michelle (Dan) Bower, Washington State, Mary (John) Sczepanski, Ithaca, New York.; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Killbuck, NY on Saturday (April 28, 2012) at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Terry Davis officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Kevin Guest House, 782 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, New York 14203 or Buffalo General Palliative Hospice Unit.
