David J. Biscup Sr.

David J. Biscup Sr., 81, of State Park Avenue, Salamanca, NY died Thursday morning August 30, 2018 at The Pines Health and Rehab Center.

Born April 21, 1937 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Florence Schwalb Biscup. He was married in the former St. Patrick’s Church on May 21, 1960 to the former Marsha Armstrong, who predeceased him on February 2, 2014.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1955.

David was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1955 – 1957.

He had been the owner and operator of Biscup’s True Value Hardware in Salamanca and Ellicottville. He purchased the former Western Auto in 1969 after working the store until the time of purchase. He then purchased the former Dietrich Hardware building in 1972. He sold the building in 1977 and moved the business to the former A&P store at 25 Church Street, before finally liquidating in 1995. He also purchased the Ellicottville Hardware in 1981. He sold that business and fully retired in December 2000.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, a past president of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, where he also held other offices, a past president and vice president of the AARP Chapter 844, a member of SCOUT, and the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535. He was a former member the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296, the Royal Order of the Elks Lodge 1025, and a former board member of the Salamanca Trust Company and later First Tier Bank. He taught the 55 Alive driving course. David was an avid hunter and fishing enthusiast. He played softball and bowled for many years.

Surviving are: a son, Jonathan Biscup, Salamanca, NY; a daughter, Carrie (Ralph) Kowsky, Lockport, NY.

He was predeceased by a son, David “DJ” Biscup Jr., four sisters, Veronica Donnhey, Marjorie Powalski, Eleanor Swanson, and Florence Drew, and three brothers, Victor Biscup, Charles Biscup, James Biscup.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4th from 10:30am - 12:30pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Peace at 1pm.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
