Donald Geiger

Donald Geiger , age 78, of Fredonia, New York formerly of Salamanca, New York died early Monday morning, September 5, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, NY following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 15, 1937 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Raymond & Lauretta Crooks Geiger. He was married on April 2, 1960 in Old Lyme, CT to the former Verna MacDonald who survives.

He was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1954.

Mr. Geiger was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard serving from 1955 to 1962. He served out of Boston, MA on board the Coast Guard Cutter East Wind on the U.S. borders from the Artic to the Antartic.

He was employed for over 30 years in the Electrical Department of Allegany State Park retiring in 1995.

Mr. Geiger was a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 for over 30 years, a member of the Salamanca Volunteer Fire Company and later the Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Company, had served as Chief for the Southwestern Volunteer Firemen’s Association, and had served on the Salamanca Auxiliary Police Force for 14 years.

Surviving are: 3 daughters, Diane (Mark Pierleoni) Geiger, Rochester, New York, Lisa (James Schaff) Geiger, Fredonia, New York, Linda (Andrew) Finn, Fredonia, New York; a son, Donald Geiger Jr., Keeseville, New York; 7 grandchildren, Danielle (David) Slasko, Minneloa, FL, Jamie DePede, Rochester, NY, Kelli Terhune, Glendale, AR, Christopher Terhune, Little Valley, NY, Tucker and Taylor Geiger, Keeysville, NY, Ryan Finn, Fredonia, NY; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Delores) Geiger, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Shirley Capozzi and Dorothy Finch.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held in the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dan Walsh officiating followed by full military honors with members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Chautauqua Hospice, 20 West Fairmont Ave., Lakeland, NY.
