Donald Leiper
Mr. Donald B. Leiper, age 70, of Fillmore Avenue, Salamanca, New York died unexpectedly, Friday, December 4, 2009 at his home.
Born on June 22, 1939 in Blauvelt, New York he was the son of the late Frederick and Rebecca Stiles Leiper. He was married to the former Peggy Ward who survives.
Mr. Leiper retired from Verizon in 2005 after 15 years. He had previously worked on the Niagara Power Project, worked with his father-in-law in Ward’s TV Repair, had owned and operated Suburban TV Repair, and taught Electronics at BOCES in Olean, New York.
He was a member of the former Salamanca Area Jaycees, the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002, he had served as Supervisor for the Town of Salamanca, he volunteered in the construction of the Salamanca Public Library and the Ray Evans Theatre. He was active in the early Falling Leaves Festivals. He enjoyed NASCAR, bowling, and spending time at his cabin in Little Valley, New York.
Surviving besides his wife are: 4 daughters, Julie (Randy) Hinman, Richmond, Va., Debra (Tim) Reed, Bradford, Pa., Karen (Dick) Budinger, Chesapeake, Va., Cathy (Scott) Vonderheide, Wellsville, New York; 2 sons, Michael (Sandy) Leiper, Techaphi, Ca., D.J. Leiper, Great Valley, New York; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Fred (Sylvia) Leiper, Maine, John (Mary) Leiper, Ticonderoga, New York; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
Friends may attend a memorial service on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York with Deacon Michael Anderson, of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating.
Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Library or donor’s choice.
