Dorothy "Dottie" Hofmann

Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Hofmann, 75, of North Carolina, formerly of Little Valley and Salamanca, NY died Friday, July 27, 2018.

Born September 15, 1942 in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Ruth Nightingale Lepley. She was married on September 21, 1963 to Earl Burgess Hofmann, who predeceased her on April 22, 1990.

She was a graduate of North East High School in North East, Pennsylvania, Class of 1961.

She and her husband settled in Salamanca and began their family. Dottie worked for BOCES as a teacher’s aide and for the YMCA Kids Zone after school program until she retired and moved to North Carolina.

She enjoyed square dancing, fireworks, flying through the clouds, watching birds and animals, and listening to Christian music.

Surviving are: four daughters, Nadine (Michael) McClune, Joan (Michael) van den Berg, Karen (Craig) Smith, Dawn (Scott) Smith; six grandchildren, Jacob and Allea van den Berg, Caleb and Corinne Smith, Mikala and Julia Smith; a brother, David (Denise) Lepley; a sister, Beatrice (Charles) Schoenfeldt; sister-in-law, Elaine (Gary) Christensen; several nieces and nephews and their families.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sister-in-law Margaret Hofmann Overfield, a niece, Debby Schoenfeldt Craig, a nephew, Todd Overfield, and her beloved cat, Tabby.

The family is so thankful for all the support, assistance, and prayers for their mother during the nearly three years Dottie valiantly fought leukemia. A special thank you goes out to all blood and platelet donors: your donations truly do extend the lives of others.

A private family service and burial ceremony will be held this week.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the blood bank of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC and YVEDDI Meals on Wheels in Boonville, NC.
