Douglas R. Wilson
Douglas R. Wilson, 73, of Salamanca, NY died peacefully Thursday morning, July 14, 2022 in Hamburg, NY after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born October 2, 1948 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lillian (Gebauer) Wilson. He was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1968, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the Vietnam War. Professionally, he worked for various manufacturing companies as a machinist until his retirement.
On August 9, 1980, Doug married the love of his life, Kathy (McLaren) who survives. Best friends and soulmates from the start, they were the happiest when they were together.
In his free time, you could find him on the slopes of Holiday Valley where he skied on the Safety Patrol for nearly 20 years. During warmer months, he enjoyed motorcycle rides with Kathy and friends. A lover of the simpler things in life, nothing made him happier than a novelty t-shirt, a good BBQ buffet, rhythm & blues music or standing on a shoreline with a fishing pole in his hand.
To those who had the honor of knowing him, Doug was larger than life. His bear hugs, sense of humor and resounding laughter were just a few of the things that people loved about him. He was always around to lend a helpful hand or offer a useful piece of advice to anyone in need.
Above all, Doug loved his family. Days spent vacationing and evenings around bonfires were where he found his peace. He was, and always will be, a presence for anyone who knew him.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Megan (Michael) Crowley, Hamburg, NY; a son, Trevor (Cassi) Wilson, Hamburg, NY; and two adored grandchildren, Callen Crowley and Ridley Wilson. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved brother Gary Wilson.
There will be no formal visitation or funeral. Instead, a Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
