Edward Blackmon
Edward M. Blackmon, age 83, of Killbuck Rd. Salamanca died Sunday evening at this home following a long illness.
Born in Salamanca, New York on June 20, 1926 he was the son of the late John & Myrtle Berry Blackmon. He was married on December 15, 1944 in Salamanca, New York to the former Myrtle H. Field who survives.
He was a graduate of Salamanca High School class of 1944 and Bryant & Stratton class of 1948.
Mr. Blackmon was a Veteran of the United States Army during WWII serving in the European Theatre.
He was employed in the production layout department at Dresser – Clark, Olean, New York retiring in 1989 after over 30 years of employment.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salamanca, New York, the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post 535, Senior Citizens of Great Valley, and a former Cub Scout leader.He enjoyed crossword puzzles, SIDOKU and collecting stamps. He worked as a Volunteer for the last 20 years playing music with his twin brother Keith Blackmon in numerous nursing homes throughout the area. An avid football and baseball fan especially the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters, Darlene Blackmon, San Antonio, Texas, Marcy (Robert) Winship, Great Valley, New York; 1 son, Lawrence (Peggy) Blackmon, Decatur, Tenn.; 2 brothers Keith Blackmon, Killbuck, New York, John Blackmon, Rochester, New York; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son Randall Mark Blackmon.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday from 5p.m – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 A.M. with pastor William McNeil pastor of Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.
