Edward C. Bateski

Mr. Edward C. Bateski, 89, of Salamanca, New York, formerly of Olean, New York, died Tuesday evening, January 19, 2016 at the Absolut of Allegany, Allegany, New York.

Born October 14, 1926 in Olean, New York, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Ann Malec Bateski. He was married on September 22, 1976 in Holy Cross Church to the former Theresa Bzdak Kosinski, who predeceased him on November 4, 2011.

He had been employed with the City of Olean Department of Public Works for 25 years prior to his retirement.

Mr. Bateski was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and a lifetime member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club in Salamanca, the Pulaski Club, and the St. Stephens Club, both in Olean. He enjoyed playing the accordion at various clubs throughout the area. He loved his dogs and raising pigeons.

Surviving are: 4 step-daughters, Marcia (Kevin) Hill, Judith (Bernard) Mattson, Deborah Maley, Beverly (Jeff) Pond, all of Salamanca, NY; 3 step-sons, Leo (Shelly) Kosinski, Salamanca, NY, Larry Kosinski, TN, Thomas (Erycka) Kosinski, Covington, NY; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 3 sisters, Betty Bateski, Stella Bateski, Mary Koch and 2 brothers, Frank Bateski, Ray Bateski.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at which time a prayer service will be held, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Peace Parish at 1 p.m. with Rev. Peter Napierkowski, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
