Edward Kielaszek

Mr. Edward "Stick" Kielaszek, age 91, of Broad Street, formerly of Sullivan Street, Salamanca, New York died early Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2011 at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.

Born on February 8, 1920 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Anthony and Agnes Sermak Kielaszek. Mr. Kielaszek was married on September 19, 1942 to the former Helen Nourse who predeceased him in 1986.

Mr. Kielaszek attended Salamanca High school . He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre and Africa where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He had been employed as a Foreman with the former Fancher Furniture Company for over 30 years retiring in 1984. Previously, he had been in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years.

Mr. Kielaszek was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid football fan. He also enjoyed performing home repairs for his neighbors.

Surviving are: a daughter, Judith Kay (Donald) Mong, Scio, New York; 2 grandchildren, Theron (Jennifer) Mong, Williamsville, New York, Adrianne (Jeffrey) Donaldson, Cumming, GA; 2 great grandchildren, Helena Mong, Gavin Mong, both of Williamsville, New York; several nieces and nephews; his dear companion, Lucille Jarvis, Broad Street, Salamanca, new York.

He was predeceased by a brother, Florian Kictarek 2 sisters, Viola Woods and Helen Pendziwiatr.

There will be no visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Children's Hospital, Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
