Eldena Halftown

Eldena J. Halftown, 71, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Olean General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born December 12, 1946 in Quaker Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Alvina Cook Cooper. She was married in Salamanca, NY, to Virgil Halftown, who predeceased her in 1980.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Heron Clan.

She had been employed with the Seneca Nation of Indians Education Department as the Administrative Secretary for over 20 years and had also worked with the Nation’s Health Department.

Eldena enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and was an avid reader.

Surviving are: a daughter, Georgi Lecceardone, Salamanca, NY; a son, Mark (Jessica) Halftown, Salamanca, NY; two granddaughters, Randee Jean Spruce, Salamanca, NY, Michaelynn Lecceardone, Salamanca, NY; three grandsons, Blake Spruce, Cyrus Spruce, Chase Halftown all of Salamanca, NY; a great-grandson, Cayson Spruce, Salamanca, NY; a sister, Retta Jones, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Halftown, three sisters, Alice Cooper, Marge Farmer, and Corrine LeRoy, and two brothers, John Cooper and Rodney Cooper.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke and O’Rourke Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5 – 7pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11am with a Speaker from the Coldspring Longhouse officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
