Ellen R. John

Ellen R. John, 78, of Steamburg, NY died Wednesday morning, April 7, 2021 at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, NY.

Born November 11, 1942 in Gowanda, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rexford and Irma Kettle Button. She was married to Winston P. John, who predeceased her in 1965.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Wolf Clan.

Ellen was a graduate of Gowanda High School, Class of 1960, and earned her Associates Degree from Erie Community College.

She had been employed with the Seneca Nation Health Department in medical records for over 41 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing scat during the holidays, and going on family trips. She liked going to the game room and was an avid reader. She loved the outdoors and being at camp and had recently started gardening.

Surviving are: a daughter, Angela John, Steamburg, NY; two granddaughters, Teresa Redeye, Ariel (Peter) John, both of Salamanca, NY; three grandsons, Winston John, John W. Redeye, both of Salamanca, NY, Sammy Zamora, San Antonio, TX; a brother, Kevin Rogers, OK.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy John and a son Geoffrey John and a brother, Douglas Rogers.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 2 – 6pm.

Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Saturday at 12pm with Rev. Marvin Abrams of the Jimersontown Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
