Elmer "Roy" Johnson
Mr. Elmer “Roy” Johnson, age 80, of Great Valley, New York died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Fiddlers Green Manor in Springville, New York.
Born November 11, 1935 in Valier, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Rebecca Marie Mitchell Johnson. He was married on August 24, 1961 to the former Margaret M. Mendell, who predeceased him on April 3, 2015.
He had been employed as a lineman for Western Union for 30 years. Then, he was employed for the B & O Railroad and the Chessie Railroad, retiring in1998. After retirement he worked part time at the Seneca Allegany Casino in the Employee Dining Room.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and was a 4 wheeler and snowmobile enthusiast.
Surviving are: a daughter, Patty (Tim Jones) Flood, Randolph, NY; two sons, Chuck “Butch” (Janet Travis) Grinols, Great Valley, NY, George “Daniel” Grinols, Hornell, NY; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Normie and Tim Mitchell.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lorraine Mitchell and Dorothy Mitchell.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Hall on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Stan Scofield, Hospice clergy, officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
Burial will in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
