Elton "Al" Ullman

Mr. Elton "Al" Ullman, 73, of 48 Adams Street, Salamanca, NY died Tuesday (July 1, 2008) at Absolute of Salamanca, NY.

Born on August 23, 1934 in Napoli, New York he was the son of the late Roy and Viola Talcott Ullman. On March 16, 1962 in the First Congregational Church he was married to the former Gerri Kendall who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the 82nd Airborne Badge.

Mr. Ullman was employed as a Pipe Fitter and later as a Foreman for National Fuel for 37 years retiring on October 1, 1996

He was a charter member of the Cattaraugus County Living Arts Association,where he had instituted the Walkway of Fame, the Summer Arts Alive Program, was very active in refurbishing and maintaining the theater, a member of the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002, Jaycees, former pee-wee football coach, and was Salamanca Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year 2003.

Surviving besides his wife are: 2 sons, Richard (Maureen) Ullman, Olean, New York, Steve (Consuelo) Ullman, Norfolk, Va.; 2 daughters, Denise (Jason) Duval, Manchester, Conn., Amy (Jonathan) Palmer, Hamburg, New York; 8 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Oliver Ullman, Allegany, New York, Roy Ullman Jr., Great Valley, New York; a sister, Betty (Cliff) Hund, Great Valley, New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Fred Ullman, Charles Ullman, 2 sisters, Florence Cherry and Loretta Waterman.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.

Family suggests memorials to Home Care & Hospice, 1225 W. State Street, Olean New York or Cattaraugus County Living Arts Association.
