Emelie J. Anderson, 67, formerly of Wilson St., Salamanca, New York died Friday March 19, 2010, at The Cleveland Clinic following a short illness..
She was born on September 22, 1942 in Shinglehouse, PA, and was the daughter of the late Jess Wilson and Florence Mccarthy Wilson. Mrs. Anderson was married to the late Paul Anderson who predeceased her in May 2007.
She was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1960.
Mrs. Anderson was employed as the Maintenance Supervisor at Allegany State Park for over 20 years retiring in 2007. She also performed cleaning services at area businesses and prior to her New York State Park employment had worked at ACME Electric in Olean for 20 years.
She was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church of Salamanca, New York, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296 serving as their past president as well as County and District president, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 where she served as past president, and the holy Cross Athletic Club. She was a volunteer at numerous club activities throughout the years. She was an avid camper who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and catering with her son, Eric.
Surviving are: 3 sons, James (Maxeen) Winship of Little Valley, New York, Joel (Kim) Winship of Killbuck, New York and Eric Winship of Steamburg, New York; 2 daughters, Julie Poling, Little Valley, New York, Janet Dowdy, Little Valley, New York; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Gary (Sharon) Wilson, Myron (Carolyn) Wilson, and Ray (Sharon) Wilson all of Salamanca; 2 sisters, Vicki (Steve) LeRoy, and Cindy (Russ) Wilson of Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 A.M. with Pastor Joshua Schallert, of the United Congregational Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Disabled Veterans Fund.
