Ethel Fries

Ethel M. Fries, age 84, of Highland Avenue, Salamanca, New York, died Friday morning, January 21, 2011, at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York, following a short illness.

Born on September 21, 1926, in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Johannah Spear Wyatt. She was married on November 11, 1944, in the People's United Methodist Church to Mr. William J. Fries, who predeceased her on January 29, 2008.

She was a member of the First Congregational Methodist Church, Mizpah Chapter 162 of the Eastern Star, United Transportation Auxiliary, one of the founders of the Salamanca Rail Museum, a member of the Cattaraugus County Women's Republican Club, and a very special birthday club. She volunteered as a senior companion at the JN Adam Development DDSO on Broad Street in Salamanca. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, sitting on her front porch and watching her neighbors go by.

Surviving are: a son, William R. Fries, Salamanca, New York; a daughter, Sue A. Fries, Salamanca, new York; a granddaughter Meredith (David) Isaac, Salamanca, New York; a grandson, William J. (Jennifir) Fries III; 3 great granddaughters, Chloe Fries-Isaac, Emma Isaac, Anna Isaac, all of Salamanca, New York; a sister, Wilma (Arthur) Cooney, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Thomas Wyatt, Charles Wyatt, Robert Wyatt, and a sister, Joyce McMahon.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at the United Congregational Methodist Church on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Joshua Schallert officiating.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Drive, Amherst, New York 14226.
