Eugene Oyer Sr.
Mr. Eugene "Gene" R. Oyer Sr., age 65, of State Park Avenue, Salamanca, NY died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 shortly after being admitted to Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.
Born on September 16, 1946 in Salamanca, NY he was the son of the late Russell & Theresa Wise Oyer. He was married in Salamanca, NY on November 21, 1970 to the former Mary Agnes Wujastyk who survives.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in Malta and Sicily.
Mr. Oyer was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1964.
He was employed at National Fuel for over 35 years, retiring in 2002 as a sub foreman.
Mr. Oyer was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Holy Cross Athletic Club where he served as Secretary and Treasurer, the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296 and the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535. He was a member of the former Salamanca Moose Lodge #1002 where he served as governor, a former JAYCEE, he coached SYA baseball and football, was a former member of the Salamanca All Sports Booster Club and Gridiron Club. He was an avid gardener, sports fan, carpenter, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving besides his wife are: 2 sons, Michael (Kelly) Oyer, Frostburg, MD, Eugene (Amy) Oyer Jr., Olean, NY; a daughter, LuAnn (Michael) Blocho, Allegany, NY; 5 grandchildren; a sister, Linda (Alan) Miller, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Saturday at 10 A.M. with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
