Floyd E. Bucktooth Jr., age 77, of Center Road Jimersontown, New York died unexpectedly at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York on September 28, 2009.
Born on May 1, 1932 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Floyd & Martha Pierce Bucktooth. He was married on June 18, 1949 in Syracuse, New York to the former Elaine Gibson who survives.
Mr. Bucktooth was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was an Operating Engineer for over 30 years working with International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers Local #17 in Buffalo, New York retiring in 1994. He had also been employed by Crosby-O’Mann and the Seneca Nation of Indians.
Mr. Bucktooth was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Wolf Clan, and he was an heir of Cornplanter. He served 4 terms as a Councilor with the Seneca Nation of Indians from 1970-78. He enjoyed R-Ving, the outdoors, cooking/barbequing, and making people laugh with his great sense of humor.
Surviving besides his wife are: 2 daughters, Ernestine Sunderlin, Jimersontown, New York, Laura Cooper, Jimersontown, New York; 2 sons, Eric (Kathi) Bucktooth, Rochester, New York, Floyd (Corliss) Bucktooth, Steamburg, New York; 12 grandchildren; 25 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lenora “Honey” Smith, Salamanca, New York, Karen (Nate) Bucktooth, Cattaraugus Reservation; a brother, Robert Bucktooth, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 sons, Fletcher Bucktooth, Ernest Bucktooth Sr., 3 grandsons, Floyd “Knuckles” Bucktooth IV, Raymond C. Sunderlin, Mikey Sunderlin, 2 great grandchildren, Chance E. Bucktooth, and Jerome E. Bucktooth, 2 brothers, William Bucktooth, and Freeman Bucktooth, a sister, Veronica Dawes.
Friends may call at the family home, 3498 Center Road, Salamanca, New York on Wednesday after 3 P.M. and all day Thursday.
Funeral services will start at the family home on Friday at 9:30 A.M. followed by church services at 10:15 A.M. in the Jimersontown Presbyterian Church with Kevin John officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery, Jimersontown, New York.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.
