George Meacham
Mr. George Meacham, age 93, formerly of 39 Cleo Street, Salamanca, New York went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.
Born on October 4, 1915 in Barker Run, Great Valley, New York he was the son of the late John and Isabelle Crawford Meacham.
He was a self employed farmer and was employed at the Ethan Allen plant in Salamanca, New York prior to his retirement in 1975.
Mr. Meacham enjoyed planting a garden and tending it “faithfully”. He especially took great pride in the strawberries that he grew and sharing them with friends and family. He was a welcome volunteer and friend for over 10 years at the Cattaraugus County Nutrition site in Salamanca where he spent hours helping in the program and making new friends. Also in his retirement years he relished his many travels around the country and visiting family. At the young age of 80 he made his first trip to Hawaii alone to see his great niece Courteney Stepanek at her birth. He attended the Koinonia Christian Church in Salamanca, New York and could be seen walking to church on Sundays for worship and fellowship. His love and affection for his family was evident at all the family functions. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are: a sister, Mary Brown, Great Valley, New York. a step son, William (Debbie) Chamberlain, Evensville, Tennessee. several nieces and nephews including Bonnie Gendrue, Salamanca, New York, Florence (Terry) Meacham, Killbuck, New York, Martha (Dale) Hunter, Kelseyville, California, Marie (Larry) Eastman, Evensville, Tennessee, Della Nickerson & Mike Kelly, Salamanca, New York with whom he lived for several years, Jack (Marlene) Feichter, Salamanca, New York, Tim (Barb) Smith, Hinsdale, New York; many great nieces and nephews including Brandee (Rich) Stepanek,Carthage, New York with whom he spent many vacations.
He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. noon at which time funeral services will be held with Pastor Wallace Mapes of the Healing Reigns Fellowship officiating.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.
