Gerald E. "Gid" George
Gerald E. “Gid” George, 69, of Salamanca, NY, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Seneca Gaming & Entertainment, Salamanca, NY.
Born May 27, 1955 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Allison and Mary Pierce George. He was married on December 8, 1979 in Salamanca to the former Sandra R. Fuller, who survives.
He was a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and of the Hawk Clan.
He attended Salamanca High School and had been employed with the New York State Department of Transportation in Salamanca for over 30 years, retiring in 2008.
Gerald will be remembered for his great sense of humor and laughter. He loved being called “Oppa” beginning with his grandchildren and spreading to others who knew him. He enjoyed working on cars and was very mechanical, working on various dragsters and stock cars. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed competing in Snow Snake.
Surviving besides his wife are: three sons, Nicholas, Louis, and Luke George, all of Salamanca, NY; a granddaughter, Elise George, Salamanca, NY; a grandson, Nicholas George II, Salamanca, NY; a great-granddaughter, Evangeline Vanbrocklin, Salamanca, NY; three sisters, Darlene Miller, Jimersontown, NY, Althea “Edgie” Pierce, Salamanca, NY, Ellen Kettle, Jimersontown, NY; three brothers, Robert Pierce, Salamanca, NY, Al George, Hinsdale, NY, Greg Miller, Salamanca, NY; an aunt, Kay Redeye; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Brenda George Bova, Susan Hilliman, a brother, Ramon George, and two nephews, Buddy Bova and Michael Pierce.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 3 – 8pm.
Funeral Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 12pm with Winfield Bowen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the American Heart Association, 444 Liberty Ave, #1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
