Gerald S. John

Mr. Gerald S. “Deed” John, 63, of Salamanca, NY died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY following a long illness.

Born October 7, 1954 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Matthew and Estella Huff John. He was married in 1983 in Eddyville, NY to the former Wendy Wazaney, who survives.

He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Wolf Clan.

Mr. John was a “Jack of All Trades”, working in the construction industry throughout Western New York. He did masonry work for the Seneca Nation of Indians, Duggan & Duggan Inc., and Hadley Contractors, and had worked in a woodworking factory in Painesville, OH amongst several other places.

He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog. He was a racecar enthusiast and enjoyed working on cars. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and reading his Bible. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his saying, “I’d kill or die for you, but I’d rather kill”.

Surviving are: three daughters, Abigail (Chris Drugg) John, Salamanca, NY, Anna John, FL, Lizabeth (Andrew) Kettle, Little Valley, NY; two sons, Leland (Breanna Cottone) John, Salamanca, NY, Jesse John, Oneida, NY; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Huff, Salamanca, NY, Kathy John, Salamanca, NY, Nancy Frank, Steamburg, NY; a brother, Marc John, Steamburg, NY; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia John, three brothers, James Snyder, Anthony John, and Bradley John, two nepehws, Christopher Maybee and Matthew Maybee.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Tuesday, December 5th and Wednesday, December 6th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Winfield Bowen officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery, Jimersontown, NY.
