Grace M. Brooks

Mrs. Grace M. Brooks, age 84, of 19 Wilson Street, Salamanca, New York died Monday morning, April 16, 2007 following a long illness.

Born March 16, 1923 in Salamanca, New York she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Anna Minneci Vecchio. She was married on September 14, 1946 in St. Patrick's Church to Mr. Melvin Brooks who predeceased her on April 28, 1985.

She had been employed as executive secretary with the U.S. Selective Service System, Local Draft Board #90, in Salamanca, New York for many years. After that office closed, she worked in the city comptroller's office in City Hall.

Mr. Brooks was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Mr. & Mrs. Club. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and crocheting.

Surviving are: 2 sets of twin daughters, Karen (Larry) Scott, Buffalo, New York, Sharon (James) Taylor, Prattsburg, New York, Judith (William) DeLong, Salamanca, New York, Sandra (Robert) Farr, Olean, New York; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles Vecchio, Olean, New York and Salvatore Vecchio, Wappinger Falls, New York; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson , Christopher Farr, sister, Grazia Veccchio, 2 brothers, Michael Vecchio, and Russel Vecchio.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 A.M. in St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor of Holy Cross/ St. Patrick's Church as celebrant.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Libary fund or Home Health Care & Hospice, 1225 West State Street, Olean, New York 14760.
