Helen Oliverio

Mrs. Helen M. Oliverio, age 89, formally of Great Valley, NY died Saturday evening May 29, 2010 at the Pines Health and Rehab Olean NY following a long illness.

Born March 22nd 1921 in Salamanca NY, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Weczorecki Shonitsky. Mrs. Oliverio was married April 10, 1948 in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church Salamanca NY to the late Joseph Oliverio who predeceased her in 1977.

She was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1939. She had been employed for almost 20 years with the Hampshire Knitting Mills retiring in 1997. She had previously been employed with the Weston Cookie Co. and Sheble & Wood Woolen Mills in Salamanca NY.

She was a former member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her dearest friend and sister in-law Kayo Oliverio Wells who toured Europe together in the 1980’s. Helen’s favorite place was Kayo’s family beach home in Beaufort, SC. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and following their scholastic and athletic achievements. She was a live-in care giver to her grandson, Joshua.

She was an avid reader, especially Westerns and one who enjoyed shopping trips. Surviving, are a daughter, Mrs. Joette (John) Weir, Cross Rd. Great Valley; a son, Michael (Laurie Nenno) Oliverio, Plant City FL; 2 granddaughters, Melanie (Mark) Resch, Henrietta, NY, Karen (Todd) Fabian, Marietta, GA; 4 grandsons, Joseph Oliverio, Hornell, NY, Jordan Weir, Joshua weir, and Jacob Weir, all of Cross Road, Great Valley, NY; a great grandson, Milo Oliverio, Hornell, NY; a brother, Leo Shonitsky, Tonawanda NY.

She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Shonitsky.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke and O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home 25 River Street Salamanca NY on Saturday June 5th from 11:00 AM till 12:00PM at which time funeral services will be held with Rev Patrick Melfi pastor of Our Lady of Peace officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca NY.

Memorials may be made to Friends of the Pines or the donor’s choice.
