Howard "Skip" Rappold
Mr. Howard “Skip” Rappold, 74, of Ellicott Street, Salamanca, New York, died Thursday morning, September 25, 2014 at The Pines of Olean, New York.
Born September 29, 1939 in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Alice Lang Rappold and the late Howard Rappold. He was married to the former Evelyn Bailey, who predeceased him on October 17, 2008.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1961 – 1964 as a Sergeant in Germany.
Mr. Rappold was employed as a machine operator for Bush Industries, Falconer, New York. Previously, he had been employed at the former York Merit in Ellicottville, New York.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salamanca, New York.
Surviving are: 1 son, Douglas (Julie) Hiller, Maples, NY, 4 grandchildren, Shannon Hoag, Olean, NY; Debra Evans, Olean, NY, Troy Hiller, Adam Hiller; 4 great-grandchildren, Dani Redeye, Salamanca, NY, Bailey Redeye, North Tonawanda, NY, Zaryan Evans, Sarasota, FL, Hudson Hoag, Salamanca, NY; 4 brothers, Ralph Rappold, Cheektowaga, NY, David Rappold, Thomas (Sherry) Rappold, both of Tonawanda, NY, Daniel Rappold, Amherst, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Darlene Howard, a granddaughter, Rene Fluent, and a sister, Diane Rappold.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, Salamanca, New York with Pastor Michael Jones of the Roberts Free Methodist Church in Cattaraugus officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
