Jack Evans

Jack Evans, 88, of Salamanca, NY, died late Friday evening, May 7, 2021 at his home following a short illness.

Born on May 2, 1933 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Nelson and Eva Godfrey Evans. He was married on September 1, 1956 in the former First United Methodist Church, Salamanca, NY to Sylvia Parsons, who survives.

Mr. Evans was a veteran of United States Navy serving from 1952-56 in Europe.

He had been employed for 23 years at the NYSDOT, retiring in 1995. Previously, he had been employed by Evans Bros. Moving & Storage. He was a Deputy for the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department for over twenty-two years and served with the Salamanca Police Department for over fifty years.

Mr. Evans was a member of Riverside Chapel, formerly United Congregational Methodist Church, serving as an usher. He enjoyed spending time with family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He was an avid reader and had an interest in automobiles.

Surviving besides his wife are: a sister, Jane (Terry) Blough, Olean, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Dennis Evans, a daughter, Lisa Marie Evans, and a brother, Nelson Evans.

Memorial visitation will be held at Riverside Chapel, 134 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 12 – 1pm at which time memorial services will be held with Rev. Michael Trenchard officiating, assisted by Rev. Stan Scoville, spiritual care manager, Homecare Hospice.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
