James E. Metzler
Mr. James E. Metzler, age 79, of 45 River Street, Salamanca, NY died Saturday (June 23, 2007) at his home.
Born January 3, 1928 in Salamanca, New York, he was the son of the late Willard and Marie Whitmer Metzler. He was married in Holy Cross Church on February 26, 1949 to the former Theresa Wujastyk who predeceased him on April 19, 2007.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the Medical Detention 2nd Constab Regiment during World War II and the Army of Occupation in the post was era. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
Mr. Metzler was employed as a brakeman for the B & O Railroad prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002, an avid golfer and enjoyed his winters in Florida with his wife.
Surviving are four sons James (Paula) Metzler, Rochester, New York, Dan Metzler, Westborough, MA, Michael (Terry) Metzler, Atlanta, GA, John (Susan) Metzler, Salamanca, NY, four daughters, Marilyn Metzler, Atlanta, GA, Maureen Metzler, Rochester, NY, Marie (John) Canning, Atlanta, GA, Melissa Metzler, NYC; nine grandchildren Eric Metzler, Paul Metzler, Megan Metzler, Adam Metzler, all of Rochester, NY, Laura Metzler, Matt Metzler, both of Salamanca, NY, Melanie Metzler, NYC, Madison Canning, Mara Canning, Atlanta, GA, one sister Joyce Shinners, two brothers Geroge Metzler, Malcom Metzler, all of Salamanca, NY, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Carl Lane Metzler, one brother William Metzler, and one sister Audrey Novick.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Deacon Michael Anderson, of Holy Cross/ St. Patricks church officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
The family suggests memorial to Home Care & Hospice, State Street, Olean, New York.
