James E. Whitmer

James E. Whitmer, 72, of Ellicottville, NY died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at home.

Born January 3, 1949 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Henry N. Whitmer and Carrie Newton Wilkes.

He attended Salamanca High School.

James had been employed with Potter Lumber in Allegany, NY for over 20 years, retiring in 2014.

He enjoyed old movies, especially westerns.

Surviving are: a daughter, Melissa Ann (Manuel) Brown; a son, James E. Whitmer, Jr.; two grandsons, Christopher Herrara and Manuel Brown Jr., all of Arizona; four sisters, Norma Jean London, Portville, NY, Mary E. Collett, Limestone, NY, Lola Halstead, Painted Post, NY, Gracie Ann (Robert) Hogle, Anderson, SC; a brother, Henry W. Whitmer, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
